Lord Krishna Birth Story

Lord Krishna Birth Story

Once Bhoodevi or Mother Earth was aghast with the burden of sins and prayed to the God Brahma. Then Brahma went to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu assured mother earth that, “ He would soon be born on the earth to stop those sins as Krishna.

At that time, the king of Mathura was extremely ruthless. When Kansa’s sister Devaki was married off to Vasudeva, a voice from the sky was heard that “ Devaki 8th son would be the destroyer of Kansa”.

When Kansa heard that, he immediately drew his sword and went to Devaki to kill her, but Vasudeva intervened and assured that, he would hand over every new born son to Kansa.

Then Kansa agreed and ordered both Devaki and Vasudeva to be imprisoned immediately.

Time passed , then Kansa killed all sons of Devaki before the 8th child was born. Devaki and Vasudeva lamented for its fate. At that time Lord Vishnu appeared before them and said, “He would come soon and rescue all.”

He instructed Vasudeva to carry him to the cowherd chief Nanda in Gokul just after his birth and was to be exchanged with the daughter of Nanda’s wife Yashoda. Again Vishnu assured then the “nothing shall ban your path”.

“At midnight on the 8th day of lunar month shravan i.e. Ashtami, the divine baby(Krishna) was born in Kansa’s prison.

Soon after his birth, Vasudeva started for Gokula and the locked chains of his leg were unlocked miraculously.

While crossing river Yamuna, Vasudeva held his baby high over his head. Surprisingly, a five mouthed snake(Anant Shesh Nag) provided shelter over the baby. Then he reached Gokul and exchanged baby Lord Krishna with the baby girl(Yogmaya) of Nanda and returned back to prison of Kansa.

Early in the morning people of Gokul rejoiced the birth of Lord Krishna(baby male child) and in the Mathura, Kansa rushed inside the prison and tried to kill the baby.

But, this time the child skipped from kansa’s hand and transformed into Yogmaya Goddess and went to sky and told to Kansa, “O foolish! What will you get by killing me?”

Your nemesis is already born and your death as sure, then she vanished.

Like this way Lord Krishna born like a baby and we celebrated his birthday as Krishna Janmashtami.

In Shrimad Bhagwat geeta Krishna says

“Yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharata

Abhythanamadharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham

Paritranaya Sadhunam vinashay cha dushkritam

Dharmasangsthapanarthay sambhabami yuge yuge”

Which means –

Whenever there is decay of righteousness, O Bharata,
And there is exaltation of unrighteousness, then I Myself come forth ;

For the protection of the good, for the destruction of evil-doers,
For the sake of firmly establishing righteousness, I am born from age to age.
So we are celebrating krishna’s Janamashtami to remember him and his life history and to know how to balance Materialism and Spirituality.

Jai Shri Krishna.
